Every day I carefully write the learning objectives on my board in student-friendly language so I can clearly communicate the learning goal to my classes. I use the format: Today I Will... So I Can... Got It!
I also print the learning objectives with their scales and due dates for every student to have a copy in their notebooks.
This year I plan to do more. In spite of my best efforts, I am pretty sure that most students don't even take notice of these learning objectives! My goal this year is that any student could tell an observer, if asked, what they are doing and why they are doing it. This is my plan. I should not be the one doing all the work here! If I am more intentional about this, my students will know what the learning goal is for the day and how they can demonstrate their learning by the end of class. This is one PLAN that shall not be foiled.
